The Chicago Urban Art Society (CUAS) knows that the Screen Printing process can be costly.  With this in mind, we have created a series of DIY workshops focusing around how one (YOU!) could explore a cheaper, but equally as efficient, approach to this medium.  Students will, during this workshop, begin to use DIY approaches almost immediately!

This two-day workshop is designed to demonstrate the versatility of the Screen Printing process.  Breaking down the steps, supplies and actual needs, the student through interactive demonstrations, will learn the technical fundamentals and options of silkscreen printmaking.

The class will focus on:

+ Becoming familiar with tools and materials.

+ Exploring the printing process by running multiple test prints on various types of paper, using different colors, bootleg presses, and squeegee sizes; among other necessary supplies.

+ Beginning to look at creating basic designs and the burning process – Images will be provided to create your own designs in class.

+ Demonstrate how the Screen Printing technique can be applied using less expensive materials and tools. Were in a friggin recession. Ha!

+ Students will also learn tips for caring for screens, local places to score great finds as well as other HOW TO’S!

+ The workshop can accommodate students with various levels of experience.

+ Opportunities for Open Studio Sessions for those students with more experience. $15 a session.
